Men’s, women’s basketball face big games

Nov 29, 2012

Both the NU Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams are enjoying exciting seasons.

The men’s team currently stands 5-0 on the year, following the recent overtime win over the Emporia State Hornets. Earlier this season, the men beat Fort Hays State University for the first time in more than 30 years. The Jets take on McMurry University tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Fugate Auditorium.

After an intimidating six-game road start for the women’s team, the Lady Jets have a 2-4 record – quite respectable in light of the fact that the team has very few returners from last year’s roster and a first-year coach, Darin Spence, who has filled a big squad in a rather short period of time. The women have their first home game tonight at 5:30 p.m. against McMurry University.

Two of the biggest games of the season are coming up in the next few weeks for the Jets.

The men will play the No. 2 nationally ranked Washburn University Ichabods at 4 p.m. on Dec. 15, at home.

The women’s team play the Division I powerhouse Kansas University Jayhawks, currently ranked No. 20 in the country, at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 in Lawrence.
