Bishop Jackels blesses Newman Grotto

Sep 01, 2011

Following Mass of the Holy Spirit and Matriculation Service held Thursday, Sept. 1, in St. John’s Chapel, the Most Rev. Michael O. Jackels, Bishop of the Diocese of Wichita, invited those at Mass to join him on the newly remodeled Grotto west of Sacred Heart Hall for a dedication and blessing ceremony.

Among the attendees were Randy Crook, architect, and Nick and Tom Dondlinger of Dondlinger and Sons Construction Co., Inc. along with other Dondlinger employees. Crook and Dondlinger Construction each played a major role in the Grotto project. The Grotto is now complete with new sidewalks, seating, and a new brick patio made possible by the labor of current and former Newman students and seminarians of the Wichita Diocese. When visiting campus, visitors are invited to enjoy this sacred place for peaceful reflection and worship.
