Newman University Steckline Gallery presents ‘Upon Further Inspection’ and Carved Porcelain’ Nov. 25 – Dec. 16
The Newman University Steckline Gallery will present “Upon Further Inspection” and “Carved Porcelain” by Ryan Harjo, Dane Jones, and Natalie Brown as the fourth show of its 2011-2012 season. The exhibit, which begins with a Final Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, will be on display through Dec. 16. Both the reception and admission to the gallery are free and open to the public.
Newman University to host reading, signing of Bryan Dietrich’s new book Nov. 11
Newman University will host an event to launch Professor of English Bryan D. Dietrich’s latest book The Assumption from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11 in the Jabara Flexible Theatre, located inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The Newman University Theatre Department will present Ken Ludwig’s “Lend Me A Tenor” at 8 p.m. Nov. 17, 18 and 19, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 20, in the Jabara Flexible Theatre in the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.
Newman to begin collecting for ‘Soles4Souls’ shoe drive Nov. 11
From Nov. 11 to Dec. 19, Newman will be collecting shoes for the “Soles4Souls” shoe drive. People can drop off any lightly worn shoes and their shoes will be donated to people in need from many countries. Through “Soles4Souls” shoes have already been given to individuals in more than 127 countries including Kenya, Thailand, Napal, and the United States. Read More…
Newman University Music Department to present ‘Poetry in Music’
The Newman University Chorale and Troubadours will present their first vocal music concert of the year on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in historic St. John’s Chapel inside Sacred Heart Hall at Newman University.
The Newman Chorale will present Ralph Vaughn William’s Dona Nobis Pacem which features the poetry of Walt Whitman. The Newman Troubadours will begin the concert with poems by E.E. Cummings (also commonly written as ee cummings), arranged by Eric Whitacre, as well as poems from Langston Hughes; all set to music. Read More…

Most Americans are aware of the uprisings against governments in the Middle East over the past year. Few, however, may understand the scenes they see in the media, some quite violent, as they depict extraordinary acts by ordinary citizens taking place in the streets of foreign cities. Artist Katrina Florell will hold a lecture and demonstration on ceramic molds and slip-dipping from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the ceramics studio in the De Mattias Fine Arts Center. The Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies at Newman University will present Father Bill Morton, a Columban priest from El Paso, Texas, at a lecture set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 in the Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus, 3100 McCormick in Wichita. The lecture is free and open to the public.
