Newman University alumnus Tim Norton to be honored as Humanitarian of the Year
Newman University alumnus and Sedgwick County Commissioner Tim Norton will be honored as Humanitarian of the Year at a benefit event starting at 6:30 p.m., May 21 at the Abode Venue, 1330 E. Douglas in Wichita. The event, “An Evening of Note Celebrates One Man, One Community, One Beard,” will benefit the Donna E. Sweet Emergency Fund, which provides medical assistance for HIV-positive individuals in the Wichita community. Read More…

Alumni, High Tea celebrated during Cardinal Newman Week 2013
Illness and a record-breaking snowstorm may have disrupted some events, but they didn’t stop the Newman University community from celebrating some traditional activities, honoring several illustrious alumni, and maintaining the spirit of Cardinal Newman Week, the annual tribute to the life and teachings of John Henry Cardinal Newman, the 19th century Catholic theologian and educator for whom the university is named.
Newman alum Clare Vanderpool to stage readings, signings of new novel
Newman University alumna Clare Vanderpool ’87 will appear at two upcoming readings and signings in Wichita for her new novel Navigating Early. The first event will be Saturday, Jan. 19 at Eighth Day Books, 2838 E. Douglas. An Open House will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a reading and book signing beginning at 7 p.m. The second reading and book signing will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Watermark Books, 4701 E. Douglas.
Shipman wins $500 in young alum survey drawing
Congratulations to Denver Shipman ’11, the winner of $500 in a drawing among participants in a recent alumni online survey. Newman alumni who had graduated between 2007 and 2012 were asked to complete the survey about their experiences and perceptions of Newman following graduation. All alums who filled out the survey by Dec. 12 were entered into the drawing.

Newman University alumnae Melissa Grelinger ’82 and Linda Snook ’77 were among those celebrated at the Dress for Success 4th Annual Kansas Women of Distinction Tribute Book publication party on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Abode Venue in Wichita. Each year, Dress for Success Wichita publishes a tribute book that highlights women across the state of Kansas who make a difference in their communities. Read More…
Dec. 6 book signing features Newman alum Robert Condreay
The Newman University Alumni Relations Department will stage a book signing by Newman alumnus Robert Condreay ’82 and his wife Vanessa, co-authors of the book The True Night Before Christmas: While the World Was Asleep… The signing will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Macias Gathering Space in Dugan Library.
The book is illustrated by Linda Wallace, mother of current Newman student Danielle Wallace.
Mmmmm – those are tasty Little Bits!
NU students, faculty and staff lined up Nov. 27 in Dugan Library to get a free taste of Little Bits Gourmet Cookies. The sampling of “The Tiny Cookie with the Big Taste” was courtesy of Newman alum Greg Cole ’95, who created, bakes, packages and markets the cookies through the Good Life Company he founded in Wichita.
