Newman University Jets vs. Wichita State Shockers Dec. 19

The Wichita State University men’s basketball team will host the Newman Jets in a regular season contest scheduled for 7:05 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita. This game marks the third matchup between the teams, with the Shockers winning both of the two previous games. The Jets are hopeful this game will give them a check in the win column.

The Jets and the Shockers have previously played exhibition games; this is the first regular season game between the two teams.

Women’s Basketball Opens Wednesday at Arkansas

The Newman women’s basketball team will open its 2010-11 campaign Wednesday evening with a highly-anticipated exhibition contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Tip-time for the contest is slated for 7 p.m. inside the 19,200-seat Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark.. The game will be broadcast in Wichita on KGSO, 1410 AM.

Volleyball Hosts Arkansas-Fort Smith in Final Home Series

The Newman volleyball team concludes the home portion of its 2011 schedule with a pair of late-week games against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday and Friday. Both games will begin at 7 p.m., with Friday’s contest serving as the team’s senior night.

Newman Jets to take part in Kansas 150 Festival Oct. 8

Members of the Newman University Women’s Basketball Team and Cheer/Dance squad will participate in the parade set for 11 a.m., Oct. 8 in downtown Wichita to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Kansas statehood. The parade kicks off the “Kansas 150 Festival,” an event created by volunteers, municipalities, businesses and other organizations across the state to commemorate the Kansas sesquicentennial.

Register now for Aug. 7-8 Jet Open tournament to benefit Newman athletics

After one of its most successful outings in 2010, the Laurie Bell Memorial 27th Annual Jet Open Charity Golf Tournament will look to continue its success in 2011. The entire event, which benefits the Newman University Athletic Department, will be held over the course of two days in an effort to make the event more user-friendly.

Newman athletic programs grab top Heartland Conference academic honors

For the fourth time in five years, Newman University athletic programs have been recognized for achieving the highest average student-athlete GPA among all athletic programs in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference. Newman’s programs combined for a 3.30 grade point average for the 2010-11 academic year.

The Newman women’s teams maintained an impressive 3.46 GPA, while the men’s squads combined for a 3.13 GPA.
