Western Kansas residents who wish to earn a teaching degree or build on an existing elementary education degree will now have the ability to do so without leaving their hometowns, thanks to a new early childhood education degree program to be offered by the Newman University Western Kansas Center.
The Newman University Chorale and Troubadours will present the spring musical production “Dancin’ Through the Decades” at 7:30 p.m. April 28 – 30 in Performance Hall, inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus.
The recent disaster in Japan has propelled the world into learning the latest information about nuclear energy from the current field of scientific experts. It is apparent science has played and will continue to play a key role in our global society. Dr. Alan Beyerchen, associate professor of History at The Ohio State University, will visit Newman University as the keynote speaker for the History Department’s annual History Speaker Series. Beyerchen will present a lecture entitled “From the Chemists’ War to the Physicists’ War and Beyond: Thoughts on What Science Brought to the Military Table in the Global Conflicts of the 20th Century.”
Nationally known author and education expert Alfie Kohn will present a lecture entitled “Don’t Beat Them, Join Them: Exploring the Value of Cooperation in a Society Addicted to Winning.” The presentation will take place Saturday, April 16 at Kapaun Mount Carmel High School, 8506 E. Central in Wichita. The event is free and open to the public, and is hosted by the Gerber Institute for Catholic Studies at Newman University.
The Steckline Gallery at Newman University will feature a group exhibit of mixed media artworks curated by Matt Hilyard called “HE,” beginning with an opening reception at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25. The show will run through Friday, April 22.
Newman University’s 12th Annual Literature Festival and Scholar’s Day is set to satisfy participants much like a pot luck dinner. Consider it an educational stew for literature lovers and lifelong learners of all interests. And, it’s based on the theme, “The History of Food.”

The Newman University Fall 2010 Commencement ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple. A total of 160 students graduated.
Newman University will honor Mildred “Mickey” Armstrong and Marjorie “Marj” Chance with Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa degrees during the Newman Spring 2011 Commencement ceremony, beginning at 10 a.m. May 14 at Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple in Wichita.
The Newman University vocal group The Troubadours, select members from the Clearwater High School Blue Notes, and select members from the Bishop Carroll Catholic High School Madrigals and Chanterelles have been chosen to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, March 13.
Newman University will provide a “sneak peek” of all the music to be performed at Carnegie Hall at a special concert scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus. Read More…
