Gonzalez named Heartland Conference Player of Year, Newman collect postseason honors

The Newman University volleyball  team, which has broken three university records this season, garnered several postseason conference and all-region honors.

Senior middle hitter Ashley Gonzalez, senior setter Alexus Litts and sophomore outside hitter Emily Harvey were all named to the All-Heartland Volleyball First team.

Gonzalez and Litts also garnered individual post-season honors, Gonzalez being named Heartland Conference Player of the Year and Litts being names Heartland Conference Setter of the Year.

Gonzalez received this title after leading the conference in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage and aces. Gonzalez also led the Lady Jets in blocks, totaling 83 in the regular season. She was named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week an astonishing eight times this season.

Litts was names Setter of the Year after leading the Lady Jets and the Heartland Conference in assists and assists per set. Litts was also named Heartland Conference Setter of the Week three times.

Harvey was second on the team and fourth in the conference for kills. She is second on the team and seventh in the conference for kills per set. Harvey also ranks eight in the conference for hitting percentage.

In addition to league recognition, the American Volleyball Coaches Association released its Division II All-South Central Region volleyball teams Dec. 3, with Ashley Gonzalez being named to the first team and Alexus Litts selected as honorable mention.
