Journalism student Delaney Hiegert’s article goes international

Feb 18, 2016

Newman University journalism student and softball player Delaney Hiegert recently completed an internship with the Wichita Eagle.

An article she wrote about “social pets” was recently picked up by the Associated Press, which means it could be reprinted or republished in newspapers around the world — and, for this article, it was.

“Social media goes to the dogs — and cats” first ran in the Wichita Eagle‘s Jan. 15 issue and was picked up by the Associated Press soon after. The article got a lot of play in the United States, running in newspapers in Texas, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. Recently, the story showed up in the International Edition of the South China Morning Post in China, the Singapore Daily in Malaysia and the web publication Stuff.Co.NZ in New Zealand. News and pets blogs also picked up Hiegert’s article.
