Newman University athletics week in review

Newman University softball wrapped up a long home stand Tuesday with a doubleheader against Northeastern State University. The Lady Jets, 12-25 on the season, notched five wins during the home stretch, bringing their home record up to 6-8.

The Jet’s baseball team, who had a hot five-game win streak before dropping a game to Texas Permian-Basin on Mar. 26,  but bounced back Tuesday at home against Northwester Oklahoma State University. The Jets, 19-9 overall, are currently fourth in the Heartland Conference rankings.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams both started conference play with a win, besting Dallas Baptist University. The women’s squad, on a two-game win streak, at 12-3 overall. The men’s team, 5-8 overall, are looking to snap at two-match losing streak. Both teams will play Arkansas Fort Smith on Apr. 2 in Wichita.

Mens tennis – Jets throttle Friends – men win exhibition

The Newman golf teams are off to a hot start, with the men placing third in their last tournament and the women placing seventh. The men’s team played in the St. Edward’s Invitational on Mar. 28 finishing in 11th place. The next men’s game will be on Apr. 4 for the DBU Patriot Classic in Irving, Tex. The Lady Jets won’t hit the green until Apr. 11 at the Doc Housewright Invitational in Granbury, Tex.
