Newman University Jets vs. Wichita State Shockers Dec. 19

The Wichita State University men's basketball team will host the Newman Jets in a regular season contest scheduled for 7:05 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita. This game marks the third matchup between the teams, with the Shockers winning both of the two previous games. The Jets are hopeful this game will give them a check in the win column.

"It's an opportunity for us to play against a very good and talented Division I program which happens to be in the same city," said Mark Potter, Newman University head men's basketball coach. "Every year it's a challenge for us to play to their level and bring our 'A' game. We look forward to it this year and hopefully we can give them a run for their money."

Newman University Athletics will host a pregame party, which will include a pep rally and taco bar. The gathering will take place from 5 to 6:15 p.m. at the Tarcisia Roths, ASC Alumni Center inside the Dugan Library and Campus Center on the Newman campus. Admission is free for all who have purchased a ticket to the game and $5 for those who haven't. There will also be free transportation to and from the game by Village Tours & Travel, with a bus departing Newman immediately following the pep rally.

"After attending Newman for more than a year now there are guys on the team that you know quite well, so there's some trash talking involved which makes the game personal in a competitive way," said Eric Saunders, a Jets senior guard from Columbia, Mo. "Last year we were unable to get the job done and this will be my last chance at them so I'm hyped and ready to play."

Tickets to the game are $20 at the general entrance gate of the arena. A limited number of tickets are also available through Newman University by calling 316-942-4291, ext. 2118 or by email at rohlederm@newmanu.edu. The Newman Athletics Department invites their fans to come out and support the men's basketball team as they take on the Shockers.
