Newman University welcomes Clark Schafer as Director of University Relations

Clark Schafer has been named Director of University Relations at Newman University, effective Nov. 17.

Schafer now oversees the University Relations Department at Newman, which includes communications, media and public relations, marketing and advertising, graphic design and web site maintenance and development. University Relations is part of the University Advancement Department, which includes fundraising and university development, alumni relations, university mission effectiveness and archives.

Vice President of University Advancement J.V. Johnston said Schafer brings a wealth of experience to Newman.

“We are pleased and excited to have Clark leading the University Relations team,” Johnston said. “His background includes experience in media relations, content development, communications, marketing and advertising, and strategic planning. He has proven himself to be effective and successful in all these areas and more, and we are very glad to have him at Newman.”

Schafer began his media career in sportscasting, and has served as sports director, anchor and reporter for KSNW-TV. Later, he worked in the KAKE-TV sports department. Schafer also has a background in banking, and served as Vice President at Security Savings Bank, and later as a loan officer at BNC National Bank. Most recently, Schafer founded and acted as chief marketing strategist and consultant for Strategic QB LLC, which provided a wide range of marketing, video, social media and content creation and management services to small business owners.

“I’m delighted to be at Newman, and look forward to applying my knowledge and skills to support and advance the university’s mission,” Schafer said. “I’m humbled to have the opportunity to join the great team here and am excited to play a role in helping share the stories of an outstanding university.”

Schafer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in 1981. He and his wife Amy have four children and reside in Wichita.
