The Big Nasty Press showcases at Steckline Gallery

Nov 16, 2017
Final Friday

The Steckline Gallery at Newman University will present “Dirty Laundry and Other Stuff,” a portfolio by The Big Nasty Press featuring works by a dozen different artists. The exhibition will begin with a Final Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 24 and will be on display through Dec. 15. Both the reception and admission to the gallery are free and open to the public.

The Big Nasty Press is a small grassroots press focused on the production of limited edition works by area artists.

The showcase theme was inspired by a fascination with handmade paper, recycling and laundry. Printed on paper made from dryer lint, The Big Nasty Press’ portfolio, “Dirty Laundry,” explores creative, expressive images that individually may at first appear mundane but taken as a whole deliver an unsettling and ambiguous narrative.

Scott Brown, operator of The Big Nasty Press, stated, “Given a nebulous topic, our participants rose to the occasion to deliver poignant and interesting images.”

An “Art for Lunch” presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the gallery. A light lunch will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are also welcome to bring their lunch. This event is also free and reservations are not required.

The Steckline Gallery is located inside the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman campus, 3100 McCormick. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. For more information, call 316-942-4291, ext. 2199.
