Sep 24, 2016

Fugate Gymnasium was filled with approximately 450 people as the 2016 Party on the Plaza festivities commenced, as popular event moved indoors due to rainy weather.

Since 2010, Newman University has held it’s annual fundraiser on Founders Plaza, raising more than $125,000 each year for student scholarships. The “Oktoberfest” theme has been around since 2011, and it has become an increasingly popular event for supporters to attend.

pop-tap-the-keg-toastNorreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. along with Mayor Jeff Longwell kicked things off with the ceremonial tapping of the keg. Party guests enjoyed authentic German cuisine while sipping on a variety of available beverages.

This year’s featured beers included Odell Oktoberfest, New Belgium Pumpkick, and Wichita Brewing Company Yumkin Pumpkin—but there was something for everyone. Wine lover’s had a wonderful selection to choose from and Carrocci’s Bar offered up a few mixed drinks as well.

Party goers were entertained by the Newman University Troubadours as the evening’s activities unfolded. The silent auction was a big hit with items such as restaurant gift certificates, jewelry, art, and more.
