Students gather on campus to watch Sloppy Joes, men’s basketball game on big screen

Mar 04, 2010

Join Newman students, faculty and staff who will not be making the trip to San Antonio, Texas, for the 2010 Heartland Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament for an evening that starts with a performance by the Newman Sloppy Joes Improv Troupe followed by a viewing of the game on the big screen TV in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center.

The Sloppy Joes Improv Troupe, a student comedy group, will perform at 6 p.m. instead of their original show time so everyone can cheer on the Jets as they play the semi-final game in the tournament. Pizza, including cheese and veggie, and wings will be provided. The men’s basketball game starts at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the St. Mary’s vs St. Edward’s game at St. Mary’s in San Antonio.

The day has also been marked as “spirit day,” as the Newman community will wear NU apparel on campus in support of the men’s basketball team. Admission to the event on campus is free. For updates on the Jets in the tournament, events involved with the game, or to leave a comment for the team, become a fan of Newman on Facebook and click on the events tab at the top.
