Newman University health care graduates earn top scores, high acceptance rates

Graduates of health care-related programs at Newman University have generated some impressive results over the past year.

Newman officials were notified recently that for the year ending Dec. 31, 2011, graduates of the Newman nursing program had a pass rate of 96.36 percent – the highest pass rate from among all first-time registered nurse candidates educated in Kansas on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses.

The Newman student pass rate was more than 10 percentage points higher than the Kansas pass rate of 85.88 – an average of all nursing programs in the state – and almost 9 points higher than the national average pass rate of 87.89 percent.

Newman University receives $30,000 grant to purchase patient simulation technology

The Newman University School of Nursing and Allied Health was recently awarded a highly competitive $30,000 grant from the Via Christi Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network to expand simulation technology within its nursing and allied health programs. The simulations will help provide preparation and evaluation for students in the university’s traditional baccalaureate of nursing program, graduate level nurse anesthesia program, and associate level respiratory therapy program.

The Newman University School of Nursing and Allied Health will launch an innovative RN-to-BSN program this fall that features online courses, flexible scheduling and reduced tuition. The program is designed to allow Registered Nurses (RN) with an associate’s degree to complete the coursework and clinical experience necessary to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
