The Fall Alumni Reunion will be the fifth anniversary event for Men’s Volleyball alumni. Despite discontinuation of the men’s volleyball program in 2006, team members have faithfully returned each fall for a match-up in Fugate Gymnasium. For the fourth time in five years, Newman University athletic programs have been recognized for achieving the highest average student-athlete GPA among all athletic programs in the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference. Newman’s programs combined for a 3.30 grade point average for the 2010-11 academic year.
The Newman women’s teams maintained an impressive 3.46 GPA, while the men’s squads combined for a 3.13 GPA.
Nearly one-third of all Newman University student-athletes have been named to the 2010-11 NCAA Division II Heartland Conference Honor Roll, which was released Monday. In all, 98 Jets earned recognition for their performances in the classroom.
Of the 98 student-athletes honored by the conference, 53 were named to the Heartland Conference Presidents’ Honor Roll for achieving GPAs of 3.5 or higher, while the remaining 45 were named to the Heartland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for final GPAs between 3.0 and 3.49.
The Newman University Jets baseball team will face the Wichita Wingnuts in an exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. Monday, May 2 at Wichita State University’s Eck Stadium. Tickets are $7 general admission and will be available at the gate. Read more details here.
