“The Miracle of Father Kapaun,” an eight-part print and video series that explores the life of Father Emil Kapaun, will begin Sunday, Dec. 6 in the Wichita Eagle and at Kansas.com. While the series focuses on Fr. Kapaun, it also touches on several themes such as the nature of miracles, hope, the strength of faith, and forgiveness.

Fr. Kapaun was ordained in St. John’s Chapel located in Sacred Heart Hall on the Newman University campus on June 9, 1940. He served as an Army chaplain during World War II and the Korean War, and died in 1951 as a prisoner in North Korea. He is being considered for canonization as a martyr and could become only the third American-born Roman Catholic saint.

A 12-foot by 4 1/2-foot mural of Fr. Kapaun was unveiled earlier this fall in St. John’s Chapel. View and read more about Mural-Unveiling.
