Representatives of Westar Energy visited Newman University Sept. 29 to present a gift of $15,000 to help support nursing and science education facilities at Newman through the Facing Forward campaign.

The company’s Vice President, Community Relations and Strategic Partnerships Donald R. Sherman and Business Manager Bridget Bowman made the ceremonial presentation of a check to Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. in the Sacred Heart Hall Heritage Room.

“We are happy to receive this generous gift from Westar Energy,” Carrocci said. “Westar is a great partner, and we gratefully accept this gift as an investment in the future success of Newman University and the communities we both serve.”

“We truly believe in supporting the communities we’re privileged to serve. Newman University is a valuable customer of Westar Energy and they’re here in Wichita and what’s good for Wichita is definitely good for Westar Energy,” Sherman said. “We’re big in science and STEM and building a new science building here on campus is a good deal. We’re happy to partner with Newman University and help them with their educational endeavors in Wichita.”

Westar Energy is the largest electric provider in Kansas serving nearly 700,000 customers, including Newman University.
