The 2010 Ablah Award recipients Joseph Baalmann and Barbara Nguyen, and their respective mentors, Professor of Biology Surendra Singh, Ph.D., and Associate Professor of Chemistry John Leyba, Ph.D., enjoyed an intimate lunch Wednesday with award benefactors Fran and Geri Jabara, Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. and Newman Vice President for Institutional Advancement Tom Borrego.
The annual award is presented at the spring commencement ceremony to two graduating seniors, one male and one female, who have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, exemplify the mission and spirit of Newman, and show great promise to make a strong and positive contribution to society.
Geri, along with her husband, Fran Jabara, established the Harvey J. and Leona J. Ablah Awards to honor the memory of Geri’s parents, Harvey and Leona Ablah, and to perpetuate their vision of entrepreneurism and the American dream. The family hopes this recognition will inspire other students to achieve the vision to which Harvey and Leona Ablah devoted their lives.
