Newman University announced its 2020 spring commencement ceremony will not take place as originally scheduled.
Instead, the university will hold an online commencement ceremony, which will post May 8, 2020, on its website.
Originally, the traditional Baccalaureate Mass was to be held May 7 followed by the commencement ceremonies the next day, May 8.
Students are, however, invited to attend and walk during a future Newman commencement.
Bartels sent Newman students a special video message stating, “For the class of 2020, I know that this is difficult news. You deserve the opportunity to celebrate with your classmates, teachers, friends and family. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected life in so many ways.
“However, it can’t change the phenomenal accomplishments of this class of undergraduate and graduate students. With the prayers of many, including our saints, Maria De Mattias and John Henry Newman, we will get through these challenging times together.”
Details will be made available on the Newman University graduation website as they become available.
