Following the two 2025 Scholarship Interview Days held in January and February, Newman University has offered 92 students its top scholarships. Some students were offered multiple awards.
St. Newman scholars
Five individuals were chosen to receive Newman’s most prestigious scholarship, the St. John Henry Newman Scholarship, for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year.
The St. Newman scholarship is a full-tuition annual award renewable for five years and valued at at least $177,500. Applicants are required to complete an online application, which includes the submission of a personal resumé, a picture and a 30-60 second video explaining why they want to attend Newman University. They also took part in one of the two interview days.
Applicants must have at least a 3.9 cumulative high school grade point average to apply. St. Newman scholars must complete 32 hours of community service, maintain a 3.4 or higher GPA and live on campus each semester.

Anahi Gonzalez, of Wichita, Kansas, and Wichita High School South; major: elementary education
Alex Liu, of Newbury Park, California, and Thousand Oaks High School; major: digital design
Ebiladei “Aviva” Pondei, of Wichita, Kansas, and Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School; major: nursing
Carlie Riedlinger, of Wichita, Kansas, and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School; major: elementary education
Teagan Scherer, of Cheney, Kansas, and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School; major: biology with a concentration in pre-medicine
Monsignor McNeill scholars
The university also selected 30 students to receive its prestigious Monsignor Leon McNeill Scholarship for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. The scholarship is an annual award renewable for five years and valued at a total of $100,000.
Applicants are required to complete an online application, which includes the submission of a personal resumé, a picture and a 30-60 second video explaining why they want to attend Newman University.
The Monsignor Leon McNeill Scholarship is named for the first president of the university. The scholarship requires that recipients have at least a 3.9 cumulative high school GPA. Recipients must complete 32 hours of community service each semester and maintain a 3.4 or higher GPA.
