Newman University Athletics Director Vic Trilli announced the selection of Jaime Green as head women’s basketball coach in a press conference Friday, April 9. The press conference allowed area media outlets and the local Newman community the opportunity to meet Green and learn about her plans for the Newman University women’s basketball program.
“This is a dream come true for me,” Green said. “My ultimate goal was to coach at the NCAA level. Newman is a good fit for me, and I’m really excited to be here. We can win, and we can win immediately – that’s my goal.”
Green described herself as excited and passionate about women’s basketball, and is known for having a fast-paced and high-energy coaching style. She said she planned to build a women’s basketball program at Newman that is attractive to local talented players and is based on integrity and character.
Green comes to Newman from Labette Community College, where she led the women’s basketball team to a third-place finish in the 2010 NJCAA National Championship tournament and was a two-time Jayhawk East Coach of the Year.
Green posted a 81-21 record in her three seasons at Labette. Under her leadership the Cardinals were nationally ranked for two seasons, and claimed a second-place finish two times in the Jayhawk Conference. She also produced 17 NCAA Division I and II signees, five All-Region VI selections, five Junior College Academic All-Americans and many other award-winning student-athletes.
Prior to her tenure at Labette, Green coached four years at the high school level in Missouri. Green earned a B.S.E. degree in physical education at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU), where she played from 2001 to 2003. As a student she was a member of the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll, and received the Spencer Bartlett Respect Award and the Glenn Dolence Leadership/Service Award. She was also named the 2003 MSSU Homecoming Queen. Green completed her master’s degree in secondary education administration at William Woods University in December 2008.
