Psychologist and author Jeremy Crosby to speak on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at Newman University Oct. 7

Psychologist and author Dr. Jeremy P. Crosby will discuss the challenges of veterans facing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at a candlelight ceremony Oct. 7 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center on the campus of Newman University. Crosby’s presentation is entitled, “New Hope for Recovery: PTSD Then and Now.” The evening will include a reception from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the ceremony from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The ceremony is a kick-off for Mental Illness Awareness Week, Oct. 7 – 13. The event is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Wichita, The University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita, COMCARE of Sedgwick County, the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, and the Via Christi Behavioral Health Center. Stephanie Bergmann of KSNW TV Channel 3 will emcee the ceremony.

Crosby specializes in the treatment of PTSD. For more than a decade he has provided intensive outpatient PTSD treatment and mentored graduate students in the specifics of PTSD recovery. At the candlelight ceremony, Crosby will explain PTSD in everyday terms and provide practical steps for engaging the recovery process. Key points of interest will include challenges facing military veterans with PTSD, differences and commonalities between military-related PTSD and Post-Traumatic Stress in civilian life, and an optimistic perspective for individuals just now beginning the journey of recovery.
