The Feb. 22 Newman University Men’s Basketball game against Dallas Baptist University will be broadcast live to a national television audience on the CBS Sports Network Game of the Week.
Newman was selected in October 2013 by the NCAA and CBS Sports to host the Heartland Conference contest against Dallas Baptist at Fugate Gymnasium in O’Shaughnessey Hall, as one of eight nationally televised games. It will be the first time for Newman men’s basketball to be featured by CBS Sports. The Newman Women’s Basketball Team defeated St. Edward’s University in Fugate on Jan. 22, 2011 in a nationally televised game on CBS College Sports.
The Feb. 22 action will start with a Pep Rally and free hot breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Gorges Atrium. A free t-shirt available at the Pep Rally will provide free admission to the game. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best Costume/Face Painting and Best Poster, as well as a $500 cash prize for a half-court shot contest, sponsored by South Central Sealing and Paving. Tip-off will be at 11:05 a.m. in Fugate Gymnasium.
