“We are very happy that Mark will join us at Newman University,” said Newman President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. “We look forward to his expertise in recruiting and retaining students, as well as his skills in managing and developing staff. He has a reputation for being a collaborative, people person with strong communication abilities. He will be a great addition to the Newman community.”
“I’m honored to be joining the Newman University family,” Barrett said. “Newman has all the right attributes, people, and programs to grow and become the Catholic college of choice in the region. Under President Carrocci’s leadership and vision, I’m confident we will be successful.”
As Dean of Admissions at Merrimack College, Barrett increased freshmen enrollment by 33.8 percent in only two years. He also led the successful implementation of a new Customer Relationship Management system and a paperless application reading system.
Barrett helped improve retention rates for incoming classes from 80 percent to 87 percent, and helped drive substantial growth in net tuition revenue.
Before Merrimack College, Barrett was Senior Assistant Director of Admissions and Strategic Communication at the University of Indianapolis, from 2004 to 2011. While there, he oversaw a team of three staff members who worked to build, write, and strategize communication for the Admissions Office. Barrett also helped the university grow from 4,100 students to 5,200 students in seven years.
Barrett began his career as Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Evansville, from 2001 to 2004. At Evansville he gained much experience in event planning and organization, and served as a liaison with the NCAA.
