Students, faculty, staff and alumni have enjoyed the various activities of Cardinal Newman Week which began with Mass this past Sunday with approximately 300 people attending.
Those attending the Cardinal Newman Lecture Monday evening enjoyed a presentation by Rev. Nicholas J. Rouch, S.T.D., vicar for Education and vice rector of St. Mark Seminary for the Catholic Diocese of Erie, Penn. His lecture was entitled, “‘What is your Object, what your Love, O Christian teacher?’: The Goal of the Spiritual Search for Cardinal Newman.”
Many also enjoyed the delicacies of England during the High Tea celebration Wednesday afternoon. Adorned with red roses, lace tablecloths and paper mache’ flowers created by Susan Crane’s Freshman Interest Group, the Gorges Atrium was host to many of Newman’s community as they enjoyed delicious treats, hot tea and live music by Joseph Baalmann and Jeff Cotter. High Tea was followed by an Evening Tea in the Library later that night.
The tradition of celebrating John Henry Cardinal Newman’s birthday continues this week with a reception for new alumni and alumni award recipients from 7-9 p.m on Friday, Feb. 26, in the Tarcisia Roths, ASC Alumni Center. The week-long celebration concludes Saturday evening with Mass and the annual Cardinal Newman Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
