Newman University will host a “Catholic Leading Like Jesus Encounter” by Owen Phelps, Ph.D., at 7 p.m. April 20 in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center inside the Dugan Library and Campus Center on the campus of Newman University. The event is free and open to the public.
Phelps is a nationally known Catholic facilitator and trainer, and director of the Yeshua Catholic International Leadership Institute, which provides leadership development for Catholic priests, deacons and laity. He is the author of the book The Catholic Vision for Leading Like Jesus: Introducing S3 Leadership — Servant, Steward, and Shepherd.
“Jesus is the best leadership teacher and role model of all time and the more we study effective leadership in the real world, the more we appreciate the leadership lessons Jesus provides for us,” Phelps said.
Phelps is also an instructor in the College of Business and Management at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wis., and a senior communications consultant to the Catholic Diocese of Rockford, Ill. In 2009, the Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals awarded Phelps the President’s Medallion for “lifetime achievements and contributions to Catholic communications.” The previous year he was made a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope Benedict XVI.
The Lead Like Jesus movement was co-founded by Ken Blanchard, co-author of the best-seller The One Minute Manager, as well as Lead Like Jesus and more than two dozen other books.
