The fourth and final Registration Day for the 2016 Fall Semester is set for July 15, and Newman University advisors and Student Life staff are getting ready for the last group of freshman and transfer students who will be taking their first steps as Newman students.

The three previous Registration Days have brought over 150 new students to campus to meet with advisors, sign up for Jet Days Orientation, learn about on-campus housing, register for classes, and experience Newman as a full-fledged student.

“That’s when you officially become a student at Newman,” said Director of Student Activities Lauren Fontarum. “They’ve been accepted, they’ve paid their deposit, now they’re officially a student once they register for classes.”

Fontarum said that it’s important for freshmen and transfers to transition from simply being admitted to a fully registered student. She said events like the Jet Expo, which takes place in the Dugan Library Macias Gathering Space, allow students to get things like Tuberculosis screening and acquiring their student ID out of the way before coming to Jet Days Orientation on Aug. 19 and 20.

Students will also have the opportunity to meet fellow classmates, Newman Chaplain Fr. John Fogliasso, and Dean of Students Levi Esses.

Parents are also welcome at this Registration Day and will be given the opportunity to ask questions of faculty and staff.

Fontarum said they will split up students and parents for a brief session to give students a taste of life as independent students and so parents can ask any questions they have.
