The Newman University Music Department will present Franz Joseph Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai, or Mass of St. Nicholas, at 3 p.m. on Oct. 24 in St. John’s Chapel on the Newman campus.
Both Newman choirs, the Chorale and the Troubadours, will participate in the concert. The Troubadours will begin the concert with songs that praise God, followed by Haydn’s Mass setting.
The choir will be accompanied in the Missa Sancti Nicolai by an orchestra.
The work was written in 1772 for Prince Nicolaus of Hungary on the occasion of the feast of St. Nicholas, Dec. 6.
The doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $5 and are available at the door. Newman students can attend free with an ID.
