Newman University will dedicate three new additions to campus on Friday, April 20.
The ceremony to dedicate the Heimerman Plaza, Gerber Family Commons and Bishop Gerber Sculpture will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Heimerman Plaza, located where the Heimerman Science Center once stood. A reception with light refreshments will follow at 5 p.m. The ceremony and reception are open to the public.
The brand new, state-of-the-art Bishop Gerber Science Center was completed this year and is the replacement to the beloved Heimerman Science Center. This change brought Newman University officials to the decision to build Heimerman Plaza and eventually the Gerber Family Commons, which will be dedicated along with the newly placed Bishop Gerber Sculpture.
Heimerman Plaza was built in a circular shape to commemorate the round Heimerman Science Center. The area is available to be used as an outdoor classroom when the weather permits.
The Gerber Family Commons sits just outside the front doors of the Bishop Gerber Science Center. Its naming is a way to thank the Gerber family for their generous gifts to the Facing Forward campaign. A sculpture of Bishop Emeritus Eugene J. Gerber stands just outside the common area near the front doors of the science center to welcome all to the facility.
