Thanksgiving is known as a time for family and food — but most of all, a time for recognizing and giving thanks for all the blessings that have been given to each and every one throughout the years.
It doesn’t take long to find a thankful heart at Newman University.
Junior Brittny Korte is a full-time mom and a full-time graphic design student. She said it can be difficult at times to juggle the two but with the love and support of family and friends, she is able to work on her degree and still have time for her daughter.
“I am thankful for a healthy daughter and to be surrounded by a supportive, loving group of individuals,” said Korte. “I know some young single moms aren’t as lucky to have that.”
Transfer student Kaitlyn Stallard is studying to become a grade school teacher.
“I’m thankful for my opportunity to attend Newman University,” explained Stallard. “It is something I never thought could happen for me, but I’m thankful to be somewhere where my professors care about me and my success.”
Italian native Martina Viale, who is majoring in management and marketing, said she has so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
“I’m thankful for my family and friends,” said Viale. “My family because they had me come here to the United States and they make sacrifices, and my friends because they are a great support system and they are the best.”
Kristin Fimple is studying business and accounting and said she’s thankful for her family, for helping her get to where she is today.
Newman University will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 25, so students, faculty and staff can celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices will reopen and classes will resume Monday, Nov. 26.
