The Newman University Board of Trustees has appointed Teresa Hall Bartels as interim president effective Jan. 1, 2020. Bartels will take over for former President Noreen M. Carrocci, Ph.D. who retired at the end of the calendar year.

Bartels served as Board of Trustees Chair until Oct. 2019 and will serve as interim president until the board concludes its national search for the next president.

Bartels provides impressive and vast experience leading nonprofit and for-profit organizations. She leads her own consulting firm, Hallbart Consulting LLC, primarily working with chief executive officers as a leadership coach and facilitating strategic planning.

She served as president and CEO of Gateway for Cancer Research from 2014-2018 and was president of United Way International from 2007-2010, leading it through a merger to become United Way Worldwide. She has served as an interim CEO four times during her career, including two nonprofit organizations that support higher education. She attended Sacred Heart College and received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Newman in 2010.

“I have been blessed to be able to serve Newman University as board chair for the past two years and it’s a humbling responsibility to lead this amazing university on an interim basis as we look for the next president to build upon the great work Noreen has accomplished during her tenure,” Bartels said.

Newly appointed board chair, J.T. Klaus said, “Bartels’ passion for Newman University and its mission is apparent in her work and the board is confident in her ability to lead the university toward a successful future.”

A search committee led by board member Jason R. Searl has been meeting to identify potential candidates to serve as president of Newman University. Academic Search will assist the university in its national search for a new president. The firm’s senior consultant, Dr. Rick Artman, will be meeting with Newman community members while facilitating several listening sessions later this month.
