Newman University prepares for 2023 All-Alumni Reunion Weekend

Newman University is preparing to host an All-Alumni Reunion the weekend of June 23-25 on campus.

Those participating in the festivities will enjoy a selection of events and programs including campus tours and engaging presentations.

Events include Dueling Pianos, the Sacred Heart Hall Centennial Mass, Sacred Heart Centennial dinner ($25/ person), Sacred Heart Academy high school alumni luncheon and special guest speakers.

On Saturday, June 24, five special guests will present short, 15-20 talks followed by a Q&A. Topics will coincide with the five academic schools at Newman University and will feature alumni, staff and a student-led panel. 

This event is free and will include light refreshments and snacks. The five presenters are:

  • School of Education and Social Work: Speaker: John Burke, assistant professor of education at Newman University and superintendent of Haysville USD 261 — “Preparing the Teachers of Today.”
  • School of Healthcare Professionals: Speaker: Donald Bittner, M.D. ’77, Don served as an on-call adviser to more than 70 Ukrainian doctors treating the injuries of countless war victims — “Leading with Grace.”
  • School of Business: Speaker: Gerry Killeen ‘65 SHA, ‘69, founding partner of Kaplan Thaler Group advertising agency — “Discovering the Aflac Duck.”
  • School of Catholic Studies: Panel: student-led presentation & discussion about the Newman impact and their education experience.
  • School of Arts & Sciences: Speaker: Tejay Cleland ‘22, sports reporter and anchor for KWCH 12 News, will talk about his journey to journalistic reporting.

Director of Alumni Relations Dana Beitey said, “Our reunion committee has been working diligently to ensure that the weekend will be filled with activities that everyone can enjoy. Friday night and Saturday night will both have big events.

“Friday night’s Dueling Pianos will be a casual and entertaining show. Our Sacred Heart Hall Centennial Celebration dinner on Saturday night will be a little more formal, but a wonderful trip down memory lane.”

Dueling Pianos costs $30 per person. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. with a meal included. During this family-friendly event, two performers will play song requests from the audience members and entertain with humor and fun.

For reunion attendees who’d like to stay on campus, Carrocci Hall will be available at the rate of $50 per night. Cost will include four twin beds, bed linens and towels. Toiletries, a TV and a coffee maker are not provided in the rooms.

Two local hotels have offered discounted rates for the event weekend. Best Western Airport, 3800 W. Kellogg Drive, which is across the street from the university, is offering a discounted rate of $84.99 per night. Courtyard by Marriott at Old Town, 820 E. 2nd St. N., is offering a discounted rate of $159 per night. When making reservations at one of these properties, mention the Newman University reunion to take advantage of the discounted rates.
