Newman University honors the cultural celebrations of its diverse student population by checking in with students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
In partnership with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) student subcommittee at Newman, we spoke with freshman Chavous Kuamo’o-Malama in celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander Month in May.
Kuamo’o-Malama is a member of the Newman bowling team and the Multicultural Leadership Organization on campus and loves celebrating his Hawaiian heritage. In this video, Kuamo’o-Malama explores the celebrations he and his family participate in back home in Hawaii, the sacrifices his mother made for the family and how he’s found a home at Newman.
