Graduate courses now part of savings for laid-off workers
Wichita, Kan. – Newman University has announced the expansion of the reduced tuition rate for laid-off workers to its graduate programs. The program results in up to 50 percent savings per credit hour for those with official corporate separation notices.
“Since we launched the program we’ve seen a lot of laid-off adults who want to return to college to obtain a master’s degree,” said Linda Sabala, director of graduate admissions and degree completion programs for Newman. “This opportunity had previously not been applicable to those courses.” The graduate programs included are Master of Social Work, Master of Business Administration, and Master’s programs in Education.
When university officials first approved the reduced tuition program in response to the economic downturn in March, they agreed to evaluate the situation closer to the start of the fall semester to determine if graduate courses should be part of the offer. What they found is, in fact, there is a great need to serve laid-off workers who already have a four-year degree.
“We are partners in this community and we take that role very seriously. We want to be as responsive as we can be to those needing graduate as well as undergraduate degree programs,” said Dr. Noreen Carrocci, President of Newman University.”
Students can continue under the reduced rate for four consecutive fall, spring and summer semesters. Except for Respiratory Care, the reduced tuition rate does not apply to Nursing and Allied Health courses. However, the program can be used to finish pre-requisite courses needed for these programs.
