Newman University saw some changes to its online therapy program this year when its previous service provider, Virtual Care Group, was bought out by competitor Uwill over the summer.

“We are super happy to partner with Uwill,” said Ivy Annen, Newman’s mental health coordinator. “They are much more user-friendly and give many more benefits for the students.”

Uwill is an online therapy program that is free for all students, Annen said, and it can help them deal with homesickness, stress and other mental health challenges.

Uwill is also more accessible for students than the previous platform, said Jeannie Ross, the director of Newman’s Student Success Center. It offers help in more than 200 languages and also provides students with telehealth for filling prescriptions. Even students who don’t have insurance or a primary care doctor can get mental medical care with the program, she said.

“Uwill is a lot easier for the students to use, and we want to make sure we put the student’s well-being first,” Ross said.

With Uwill, students can get an interactive therapy experience, capable of providing prescriptions, that is available 24/7.

The new program also offers personal crisis chats with professionals as well as in-person therapy, which the old program did not have.

“A lot of our student-athletes struggle with being away from home and we want to be able to lend a listening ear to those people who are struggling,” Annen said.

Uwill is used by more than 400 colleges across the world.

Students can access Uwill by inputting their school email address along with the required contact details at app.uwill.com. Uwill can also be contacted via phone at 833-646-1526.
