Newman University has announced its 2025-26 theater season, featuring a mix of improv comedy, drama, musicals and student-directed works.
Plays and musicals
Auditions for the first mainstage production, “Tom, Dick and Harry” by Ray and Michael Cooney will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and 22 in the Jabara Black Box Theatre.
Theatrical performances are scheduled as follows for the academic year:
- “Tom, Dick and Harry” by Ray and Michael Cooney Oct. 2-5
- “Carousel” by Rodgers and Hammerstein Nov. 6-9
- “Sweet Birth of Youth” by Tennessee Williams March 5-8
- A festival of student-directed one-act plays April 9-11
Thursday through Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available two weeks prior to each performance at newmanuniversitytheatre.org.
Improv performances
In addition to its mainstage lineup, Newman’s Sloppy Joe Improv Troupe will host open auditions from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 27 and 29 in the Jabara Black Box Theatre. The troupe will also perform a series of free shows for all to enjoy throughout the year in Jabara.

Sloppy Joe shows are scheduled as follows for the fall semester:
- 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12
- 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9
- 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24
- 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21
Tentative spring semester auditions for the Sloppy Joes are set for the week of Jan. 26, with performances planned for:
- 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13
- 7 p.m. Friday, March 13
- 7 p.m. Friday, March 27 – Alumni Performance
- 7 p.m. Friday, April 10
- 10 p.m. Friday, May 8
