Newman University celebrated the feast day of its namesake and soon-to-be 38th doctor of the Catholic Church, St. John Henry Newman, on Oct. 9 in St. John’s Chapel.
Deacon Jeff Jacobs reflected on St. Newman’s “quest for God in a messy and complicated world” in his homily.
“Be aware that there are theologians who drone on about building a better world as if that were the purpose of Christianity,” he said. “The holy name of Jesus is the only true meaning — something that St. John Henry Newman believed and professed.”
