Upcoming Events

The Newman University Alumni Relations Department has many upcoming events planned, according to Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Sarah Strole and Annual Giving Coordinator Brielle Dunham.

The first event coming up is at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in which all faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to participate in an all-campus event.

The current plan is a game of Capture the Flag, but in the case of rain, a Spoons Tournament will take its place. According to Strole, Spoons “is a game of stealth, wit, risk, speed, violence (limited to plastic spoons) and a lot of fun! You might even say, musical chairs meets card games meets kitchen utensils.”

No matter what activity takes place, all in attendance are asked to meet and gather in the Student Center located in Dugan Library. Attendees will enjoy prizes and free food.

In May, Strole and Dunham will travel to Colorado May 19 to 20 to mingle with alumni of the Colorado Springs Newman campus and to take part in MSW graduation celebrations taking place there.

One of the bigger alumni events, the All-Alumni Weekend, will take place Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25. Strole said, “We’re not limiting ourselves to class reunions because we discovered people build relationships throughout the classes, especially within the affinity groups.”

Over the course of the weekend, there will be four NED Talks — akin to TED Talks — one of which will feature recently retired Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mark Potter. A successful event last year was beer tasting, so that will make a return this year. There will also be activities for families and children of all ages.

Saturday, June 24 is the Alumni Awards Banquet. Strole stated, “We have a lot of fabulous alumni out there so we like to take the time to honor them.” Alumni nominate the recipients for the awards.
