The Newman University alumni relations office is gearing up for the annual Newman Alumni Weekend April 20-21.
The weekend kicks off with a celebration dedication of the new Heimerman Plaza, along with the newly placed Bishop Gerber sculpture and the Gerber Family Commons from 4:30-5 p.m. Friday, April 20. Directly following the dedication, a reception will take place at Heimerman Plaza.
The Dugan-Gorges Conference Center will be a popular spot on Friday night, where a beer-tasting event will take place from 7-10 p.m. Alumni and their guests are invited to taste beers from around the world and learn about how each of the locations are connected to the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, the founding order of Newman University.
Saturday, April 21, alumni and their guests are invited to the annual Spring Fling. The family-friendly event, with games and inflatables, begins at 11 a.m. at the McCarthy Baseball Field parking lot. The Jets will take on Texas A&M International in a doubleheader starting at noon on McCarthy Field.
There will be two special luncheons at noon April 21.
The Ablah Award winners luncheon with Geri Jabara in the Mabee Dining Center will allow all past Ablah Award winners to mingle with Jabara, who established the award with her husband, Fran, to honor the memory of her parents, Harvey J. and Leona J. Ablah.
The class of 1968 will have a 50th-anniversary celebration luncheon in the Tarcisia Roths, ASC, Alumni Center located on the 2nd floor of Dugan Library.
Father John Fogliasso, university chaplain, will lead a 5 p.m. Mass in St. John’s Chapel located in Sacred Heart Hall.
And finally, a special Alumni Awards Banquet will take place in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center at 7 p.m. The banquet can be attended at an additional cost to the weekend’s activities.
Registration is available online for alumni who want to participate in the festivities. Cost for the weekend activities is set at a base price of $35 per person. Participants can add an individual seat at the Alumni Awards Banquet for $25 for a combined total of $60. The banquet-only price is $40 per person.
