On Oct. 14, futurist and science-fiction author David Brin gave a public lecture entitled “Neutralizing Nightmares: How We Prevent Dark Tomorrows … By Imagining Them.” Brin’s lecture to students, faculty, staff, and the general public included remarks about a few of his books. Brin has published over 50 novels, one of which was adapted to a movie. Brin also spoke about his friend, the late Ray Bradbury, and his novel Fahrenheit 451, which has been the common read for Newman freshmen this year.
