The core four: Campus Activities Board’s (CAB) student leadership team

What do Breakfast and Bingo, a dodgeball tournament and the Color Run all have in common?

They were all created by Newman University‘s Campus Activities Board, CAB for short.

Housed under Student Life, CAB creates opportunities through community engagement, leadership and wellness initiatives that foster the continuous development of students at Newman.

With a new year comes fresh faces on CAB’s student leadership team. Continue reading to get to know the executive team.

Kassidy Miller

Kassidy Miller of Augusta, Kansas, is a junior criminal justice major and bowler at Newman University. She was awarded Freshman of the Year by the Great Lakes Valley Conference for bowling in March 2023.

“I’m excited to bring everyone at Newman together to not only have fun but also lift everyone up,” Miller said.

Fun facts:

  • “Bowling is the only sport I do left-handed.”
  • “I have a pet donkey.”
  • “I’m the only one in my immediate family with brown eyes.”

Travia Smith

Travia Smith is a junior elementary education major from Nassau, Bahamas. She is a full-tuition St. Newman Scholar and a member of the Newman softball team.

Smith said, “I am thrilled to pick up on the work of our former CAB chair, and to work with my CAB team to collaborate with other clubs and organizations to continue enhancing the quality of events here on campus. I believe meaningful relationships can be built to improve the college experience for everyone.”

  • “I have been studying in the U.S. for five years.”
  • “I love Chick-fil-A sauce.”

Deqlan Mitchell

Deqlan Mitchell of Zebulon, North Carolina, is a sophomore sports media and promotion major. In addition to CAB, he is a leader of the Newman Gaming Club and on the men’s bowling team.

Fun facts:

  • “I’ve been bowling for 15 years.”
  • “I can whistle like a bird.”
  • “I have been a ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ dungeon master for three years.”

Vanessa Noftsier

Vanessa Noftsier from Katy, Texas, is in her senior year at Newman. She is a criminal justice major and bowling team member.

“I’m excited to give everyone at Newman a community they feel as if they can contribute to and fit in,” Noftsier said.

  • “I own ferrets.”
  • “I’m the only blonde in my family.”
  • “I have a rubber duck collection.”
