The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host Newman University Family Weekend Oct. 9-11 to welcome students’ families to campus.
CAB will kick off the weekend’s events on Friday, Oct. 9 with a discounted showing of “Hay Fever,” the Newman Theatre Department season opener.
The family special offered for this showing will be $5 a ticket and all Newman students will get in for free. Tickets for the Oct. 9 showing will be on sale in the Student Life Suite in the Student Center of Dugan Library Oct. 5-8.
On Saturday, Oct. 10 a free tailgate party will be held between the men’s and women’s soccer games, which are at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively, at Wilkins Field.
Family Weekend encourages students and families to come out to support each team and enjoy free food and yard games.
The second event on Oct. 10 is a discounted entrance to Bergmann’s Corn Maze. Bergmann’s, located at 8401 S. Meridian in Haysville, has the largest corn maze in Kansas, along with various other attractions including trailer rides, inflatables and carnival games.
The Family Weekend discounted price will be $6 for adults and $4 for children under the age of 13. Newman students admission will be free. Bergmann’s will open for NU students and families at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 11, a Mass will be celebrated on campus at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Chapel. Following Mass, a brunch will be offered in the Mabee Dining Center, which will be free to all students and families.

CAB presents Family Weekend in hopes of getting stronger family involvement on campus and to raise Newman spirit, CAB’s Health and Fitness Committee Member Max Werner said.
“The goal of Family Weekend is to get students and their families to engage in great events on and off campus,” Werner said. “And to increase our Newman community’s Jet pride!”
