Professor Belanger joined Valparaiso University as a visiting professor in 2014, coming from Virginia Tech, where she was associate professor of English, founding director of the Center for the Study of Rhetoric in Society, and co-director of the Blue Ridge Writing Project. After earning a Ph.D. in English at The Ohio State University in 1992, she taught and directed writing programs at Youngstown State University and the University of Wyoming, where she worked with colleagues to develop the Synergy Program, an award-winning learning community for academically at-risk students. She played basketball for the Spartans at Michigan State University.
