Newman University’s 2026-27 season opens Sept. 17-19, 7:00pm in the Jabara Flexible Theatre with two one-act plays written by Newman alumni.

This season opener features two compelling one-act plays that pay tribute to some of history’s greatest theatrical minds:

“Chekhov” – Written by Austin Schwartz, ’23, a delightful homage to the master of subtext and realism, Anton Chekhov.
“Looking for Directions” – Written by Brenden Schwartz, ’22, a witty and clever nod to the legendary absurdist playwright Samuel Beckett.

Both Schwartz brothers earned their theater degrees right here at Newman, and they are returning to their roots to share their incredible talent with our community.
