The Spirit Bride

October 9 - October 10
Event Series (See All)

Newman University partners with Ballet Wichita for “The Spirit Bride,” Oct. 9-10 in the Performance Hall.

The production draws inspiration from Día de los Muertos, the Mexican cultural tradition, as a cultural connection for engaging and celebrating Wichita’s broader Hispanic and Latino community.

Auditions are open to Newman students, who will work alongside professional Ballet Wichita dancers.

“The themes in ‘The Spirit Bride’ are intertwined with Hispanic culture, and as such the collaboration also includes the local Hispanic community and pairs nicely with Newman’s status as a Hispanic Serving Institution,” Mannette said. “Newman students will have an opportunity to work side by side with professional dancers, which will expose them to a performing art that they will not normally get at Newman except through our Cheer and Dance team.”

“Our goal for this production is to engage with and celebrate the larger Hispanic/Latino community in Wichita, with Día de los Muertos serving as an important cultural entry point and source of inspiration for the work,” said Sandra S. Parks, executive director and CEO of Ballet Wichita. “Through this collaboration, we hope to create opportunities for meaningful community engagement, cultural exchange, and artistic dialogue that welcomes a wide range of voices and experiences.”
