Director of the Newman Music Department Deanne Zogleman says students have been rehearsing since the first week of school for the fall concert, which will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23 in St. John’s Chapel in Sacred Heart Hall. Zogleman said the concert will feature both the Newman Chorale and the Newman Troubadours — a total of 47 voices singing “several settings of parts of the Mass by classical composers as well as new composers and arrangers.”
The choir will be directed by Zogleman and accompanied by Instructor of Piano and Organ Carole Pracht.
“A lot of the pieces are challenging, as I like to push the students to do tougher pieces. I love seeing when they accomplish these more difficult moments and realize how talented they really are,” said Zogleman.
Kelsey England, a senior at Newman set to graduate in December said, “I’ve been in chorale since I was a freshman. I love the music [Zogleman] chooses — it’s not always something I would choose and then I end up loving it.”
England said she enjoys being in chorale and will miss it very much after she graduates.
“After the fall concert, I still have our Christmas concert, and that will be my last one,” she said. “Chorale is like a family, it’s one of my favorite parts of being at Newman.”
Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $5, but Newman students who bring their I.D.’s will be able to attend for free. For more information, contact Deanne Zogleman at 942-4291, ext. 2196 or [email protected].
