Final Mission Talk concludes yearlong remembrance of ASC Martyrs in Liberia

Mar 27, 2013

Newman University will present the final Mission Talk of the 2012-13 series on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center on the Newman campus. This year’s Mission Talk series has been dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the five Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC) sisters who were murdered in 1992 while performing mission work in Liberia, West Africa.

The five ASC “Martyrs of Charity” being remembered are Barbara Ann Muttra, ASC; Mary Joel Kolmer, ASC; Shirley Kolmer, ASC; Kathleen McGuire, ASC; and Agnes Mueller, ASC.

Raphael Drone, ASC, who served in Liberia for two years with the women before the murders, will speak about her experiences in Liberia as well as offer her personal accounts and memories of working with this team of ASC sisters. This is a painful yet inspirational memory for all Adorers, and for all others whose lives were touched by the martyrs and the events surrounding their deaths.

Sr. Drone will also give a presentation over lunch on Tuesday, April 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Tarcisia Roths, ASC Alumni Center inside the Dugan Library and Campus Center.

Both events are free and open to the public. Reservations are required for the luncheon and may be made by contacting Charlotte Rohrbach, ASC at 316-942-4291, ext. 2167 or emailing [email protected].
