Director of Mission Effectiveness Charlotte Rohrbach, ASC will present her next Mission Talk at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the Tarcisia Roths, ASC Alumni Center. This talk will focus on learning more about the namesake of the Heimerman Science Center, Marciana Heimerman, ASC.

Rohrbach gives four Mission Talks each year that revolve around a theme. This year’s theme is “Newman campus buildings that have been named after Adorers of the Blood of Christ.”

The Heimerman Science Center, dedicated in 1966, will soon be replaced by the Bishop Gerber Science Center, and Rohrbach wants her audience to understand more about the Heimerman building’s namesake.

Attendees will be able to watch a virtual tour of the building, hear about the life of Heimerman, and follow the investigation of why the building was named after her while she was still living. As usual, there will be rich history uncovered, audience participation, and fun anecdotes — one story, in particular, involves chickens.

Rohrbach said one of the most important things about Heimerman was her “missionary heart” and how she loved doing mission work. Rohrbach said, “I will also talk about some of the stories she wrote, so people can understand how she personally felt about certain things happening in her life.”

Following the historical portion of the talk, Rohrbach will reveal to the audience what will be done with the land after the Heimerman Science Center is demolished, and also how Newman University plans to carry on Heimerman’s legacy.

Although the presentation is scheduled to take place in the Alumni Center, Rohrbach encourages those who are planning to attend to be on the lookout for a last-minute room change. “More than 70 people came to the last Mission Talk,” she said. “We had to move to the Dugan-Gorges Conference Center at the last minute.”

Lunch will be served to those who RSVP. Simply e-mail Rohrbach your reservation request no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13 to [email protected] or call 316-942-4291, ext. 2167. A special Collect the Deck card will also be available at this event for those who are collecting throughout the year.

Rohrbach’s next Mission Talk will take place on Wednesday, April 5 and will cover the life of Sylvia Gorges, ASC.
