Heritage Month features St. Newman speaker

Jan 29, 2026

Each year Newman University students, faculty, staff and alumni celebrate the university’s founders and Catholic traditions during Heritage Month.

Newman will host a series of events from Feb. 1 through March 4, 2026, that celebrate the university’s founders the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC), as well as its namesake St. John Henry Newman. This year marks the 12th annual Heritage Month celebration.

In celebration of Newman’s namesake being named the 38th Doctor of the Church, Heritage Month welcomes Bud Marr, a Newman Scholar from Mercy College of Health Sciences, who will present two talks on St. John Henry Newman. Both sessions are open to the public.

Marr’s first talk is titled, “Forming Hearts and Minds: St. John Henry Newman’s Message for Today’s Church”. He will be present it on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Sister Tarcisia Roths ASC Alumni Center.

His second talk on Feb. 12 at noon in Dugan Gorges Conference Center is titled, “Faith, Reason, and the Modern World: St. Newman’s Enduring Witness”. Lunch will be provided.
